What do you think the problem is in US health care and how would you fix it?

  • Health care is an issue in the presidential debate. Some states (Massachusetts and California) are mandating health care for it's residents.

  • I would crack down on insurance companies and make all businesses that are a need have more rules. I feel that if people need a service and it's private that business type has an obligation to provide those services at a reasonable price. So I would set cap offs each year and make it impossible for them to just deny people on a whim. We all deserve to have quality affordable insurance without government taking over. The government should make things better and fairer but definitely not take over the whole system.

  • Hawaii has had mandatory pre-paid health care for working people who work over 19 hours a week for over 35 years. We haven't turned into a socialist country, and we have fairly healthy people as a result. We do still have some uninsured, but much less than the national average.

  • It needs to be mandated. I believe in preventative care. There are so many illnesses that most of the negative effects on can be completely managed if not all together avoided if these things are caught early. There needs to be adequate screening for these and I would mandate it if I were to change something. Everyone should have a physical once a year. It saves insurance companies tons and tons of money to go with the preventive side. The pre-existing condition clause of insurance companies needs to be done away with completlely. Everyone should have access to affordable healthcare and if they leave thier job they should be able to either quickly obtain healthcare or to take thier insurance with them without the outrageous costs of cobra, I have no problem paying but the costs are way too high.

  • I am not a reformer or an expert in this area but I want to point out one aspect of what needs to be improved and that is drug costs.

A drug like Ciprofloxacin costs around $0.05 for a 500mg tablet in India while it costs around $5 in the US. Both have the same efficacy. Granted the incomes in India is probably a fifth of what it is in the US. But still, how do we justify that price?
Can we not make them cheaply in the US or import them? Or do we respect the drug lobby and help them make more money in the name of protecting patents, intellectual property rights and development costs for new drugs? What justifies these when the low income folks can not afford these?

  • Germany and Austria have excellent public health care systems.
    Here's how they do it:
They are VERY tight on illegal immigration. Also you can't just have a baby in their country and that baby is automatically a citizen

. Anyone not holding the national insurance automatically pays abou 2.7 times more that the normal bill. They are expected to pay cash.

It is VERY unusual to sue Doctors and hospitals.

They pay about 50 % income tax, they have about a 17% sales tax, and they only have 5 year mortgages. With that kind of tax they can offer nearly free education and health insurance to people who are entitled to it.

University is almost free, so people studying medicine haven't invested a lot of money in their education. However they have to really be at the top of their class to study medicine. They also don't always get a choice of residency or specialty. Doctors earn much less because they are basically government workers. They can earn some extra with a private practice on the side.

People can buy extra insurance which lets them see a doctor under private practice status. Then they can get in quicker. However most people just go with the state provided insurance.

They institute controls, for example, if your baby's healthcare book isn't stamped with its shots and exams, then you don't get your maternity leave money.

Mostly it's based on everyone forking over a LOT more money in taxes, doctors earning less, people not being able to sue like crazy, and people living a lot smaller than they do in America.

  • first off american health care is big business... who is getting well with it... it operates to keep folks dependent on it rather than to get to the root of disorders and cure them... natural medicine either alone or along with traditional medicine is needed... but how to provide for everyone is another question. Is it the governments responsibility to supply it... well now if they do then we have to follow their rules... socialized medicine is not acceptable ... ask why canadians come to america for care... face it the government wants us disarmed dependent upon "them" ignorant of their operations... (actually the federal reserve is running our country... influenced by evil no doubt about that... for their own profit... our founding fathers warned about this but ... here we are. Many taxes hard working people pay are unconstitutional the irs is a criminal entity attached to the fed which is not a legit gov. agency... read the creature from jekyll island... go to sidroth.org and listen to dr. larry bates... do some research ... soooooo if people didn't have to throw their wages away on illigit taxes they'd have money to purchase health care... also ridiculous lawsuits and big pharmacy raises rates... pharmacy is big big business... and is also in many instances harmful even kills people... we are in an evil greedy selfish world so whoever is the strongest greediest dirtbag... i guess they win... at least they think they do and it looks like they do but there is the BIG EYE that sees everything we all do and aint nobody gettin away wit nuttin!!! think about it

  • 1. Fix the illegal immigration problem. Like build a freaking wall.
    2. Get hard on Americans to freaking take care of themselves...
    3. Focus on free market principles and use greed to work for us and not against us...GREED is a reality...so let's go with the flow instead of fighting it.
    4. Bottomline...I should not have to be told to get healthcare...
    That should be a personal choice....just like it's a women's body...
